Our Purpose
Mission and Vision
Preserving the past and nurturing the future are not separate acts — they are the same act, performed across time.
Our Mission
What drives us
The Bunny Matthews Archive is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to preserve the life, work, and cultural legacy of Bunny Matthews.
Bunny's work was always about possibility and creativity: the possibility of seeing yourself in a drawing, of laughing at an unreal scene that you happened upon, of creating something true and beautiful out of the place you call home. That possibility is exactly what we intend to protect and pass on.
The Archive is both a preservation effort and a promise — a commitment to the city that made Bunny's work possible.
Our Vision
Where we're headed
We envision the Bunny Matthews Archive as a living cultural institution — not a static repository, but an active, generative presence in the life of New Orleans. Within five years, we aim to:
Establish a permanent digital archive
Making Bunny's complete body of work freely accessible to researchers, educators, journalists, and fans worldwide.
Launch traveling exhibitions
Bringing Bunny's illustrations and stories to galleries, universities, and cultural institutions across Louisiana and beyond.
Publish archival volumes
Including collected works, critical essays, and oral histories celebrating his contributions to New Orleans culture.
Build lasting community partnerships
With New Orleans schools, cultural organizations, and arts institutions to embed the Archive's mission into the civic fabric of the city.
Be part of the vision.
Join us in building something that lasts — for Bunny's legacy and for New Orleans' future.
